Baktas MSU 9th Anniv Celebration CEBU Leg!

If the student base had a wedding-like venue, a holy wali and videoke for the 9th anniversary celebration, kami sad diri sugbu dili mi papildi!

First stopover: around 2:00pm and while waiting for Alon to come home from work, we stayed at Bo's Coffee Club at Rain Tree Mall. Call brigade to all members and applicants. Finally, we established contact with Huyong-huyong! And Tugas made his facebook account.

Next stopover: Handuraw Pizza at Lahug. Below Zero SML welcomed us at this homey restaurant.

Tugas while talking to the student-base

M22m while talking to Yapak-itim in Manila. We almost called everyone who were outside Gensan: Bagakay, Nito, Alindanaw. Some could not be reached like Ulap.

One bottle each . When was the last time we had an alcohol?

How was your celebration there in the park?

Unsolicited Anniversary Message from Cebu

To all BAKTAS MSU members and applicants, in and outside of our General Santos City base:

Don’t know how to start this message since by just thinking we are already 9 years old, the fact overwhelms me. Memories of how we started this organization, and nurture it all through the years full of ups and downs made me realized we are “there” yet, or, aren’t we there yet? With 9 full years, I still could not answer it.

Let me start by thanking you 'ALL' mga 'tol. Thank you for believing in our ideals and thank you for giving all that is you. Nine years is impossible without the leadership of the past 9 presidents, and the all-out support of all the members and applicants. We are witness on how some of our members offered their lives for the group. No words can even match their selflessness.

One thing that struck me with this organization is on how it defines brotherhood amidst nothingness. It only proves that camaraderie matters over money. More than the climbs, we nurture relationships. And it shows with the growing roster of membership.

Our activities were conducted out of great minds and resourcefulness. We always say that the most important part of the activity is on how we bonded as a group and the lessons we learned from it. Despite obstacles, many of them, we left no stones unturned. And it turned out each is a great success. We have the Kabantugan Award, our fruit of labor, the fruit of our fun.

The most important is on how each one of us transformed from just a common student to a more aware and self-made environmental advocates. Discipline was the most difficult word but it was along time, learned to be part of our everyday life.

We dreamed of one day we can gather all of us in a climb outside of our base area in a full comfortable gear, less the financial worries. We dreamed of conducting activities without the need tolook for partner organizations. We are nearing these dreams...

Ahead of us is more challenging year. I am praying that God may always fire the passion that is within our hearts. May we be guided by our mission and vision, and struggle to be the best that we can.

Happy anniversary guys. We deserve a celebration. Thank you for being part of this organization! With our feet on the ground, we are proud to say "nine na mi!"

A toast for a more fruitful years to come!

Baktas MSU invades FACEBOOK

The best thing is, we can establich and nurture links to almost anybody.

10 PEAKS

Exactly 16 months from now, BAKTAS MSU will turn 10. The student base and theGensan-based COE conceptualized an exciting event: TEN PEAKS.

What is this?
WE have to climb ten peaks. Yes, it's 10 peaks (aside from the regular peaks weare climbing as much as possible). Since the membership has already spread out geographically outside Gensan, it's high time to let our footprints mark onother peaks. And wouldn't it be great to highlight this on our tenth year anniversary?

When is this?
We are still on the planning period for this grand activity that's why we needyour input. This will spell the materiality of the event.

Our objective
Celebrate our being "Baktas Mountaineer" in ten ways and in ten peaks.

Here's what you can do:
1.) Climb a peak within your area.
2.) Let us know which mountain you will be climbing and when.
3.) Climbing dates should fall from kick off period till the anniversary. Final dates will be sent to you.
4.) With your camera or videocam on hand, document the event.
5.) Write about your climb. It doesn't need a pro to do it!
6.) Have your climb journal published, or send it to us!
7.) Student base will gather and collate the
8.) Spread the word to other members and you might want them to join you! It's good to have them in baktas climb!
9.) Tip: You can join with other groups' climb if you don't know the details of a certain mountain.
10.) Always inform us with your plans so we can map out the ten peaks!
11.) The climbs doesn't have to be synchronized in just one date. It will startfrom kick-off date and will end a week before our anniversary.
12.) To cap off the grand event, let's gather in Gensan and celebrate. To those who are away from Gensan, I will keep you posted on promo airfares so you can avail of great airfare discounts. Remember we still have 17 months to prepare,so there's no reason you can't join.
13.) Of course our anniversary is on the 13th of September 2010. Student base and Gensan-based COE are planning for this grand gathering.

Any suggestions? Please coordinate with the student base and gensan-based COEs. We need to hear from you.

UPDATE YOUR PROFILE IN OUR YAHOO GROUP!

It has been 2 years back when we had our profiles updated. Most of the information were changed and there were few members added in our roster. We need to update it so we may get in touch with each others as often.

Here are the following steps to guide you.:

Step 1. In our yahoo groups, click "DATABASE" located at the left yellow column

Step 2. Table Names will pop out. There are 2 tables you need to fill up. One is the "LATEST PROFILE AS OF MAY 2009" and the other one is "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY PLS. CONTACT." Click table one first and enter your profile and then go back to the second table later. Make sure you enter your data into these 2 tables:

Step 3. Once inside either table 1 or 2, click "ADD RECORD"

Step 4. Enter your data. Make sure you fill in all fields, checking the spelling and correctness of data. Once all data is encoded, click "ADD RECORD" which is just below the fields.

Step 5. View your data. Once you clicked the "ADD DATA", your encoded information will be listed in the table. You're done! Thanks for updating your profile.

ANNUAL DUES CAMPAIGN

No matter how big or small your share is, your penny can help this organization grow.

As practiced, kindly direct all your share of the annual dues to Tarabusaw, either through MLhuillier Kwarta Padala or LBC Pesopak:

GARY JOHN BALAJADIA CABINTA

The Cabinta couple will take care of our funds for the mean time as we are planning to get a group bank account. Of course, Alingatong will inform us monthly regarding the group's disbursements and standing account through our yahoogroup. Kindly notify Tarabusaw through text once you sent money to him.

Our annual due for COE is Php 1,500.00. You can pay it one time, monthly or in staggard basis, depending on the availability of your resources. As of this time, only Yapak Itim had made a full one time payment of his due. Thanks by the way tol.
As agreed by the Visayas-based COE, COE funds should not be used in acquiring group equipments.

Annual dues for the student-base will be determined and assessed by the student-base themselves. Collection and safekeeping will be taken cared of by Bahaghari, and will give monthly financial report to the COE.
